By David Reeves, Secretary for Health and Wellbeing
Local health campaigners are calling for greater transparency from NHS England following the controversial decision to site the Mobile Breast Screening Unit in Westbury for Avenue Surgery patients.
Over 1,000 Signatures and Counting
Councillor Liz Lee and I are incredibly grateful to the community for their support. Our petition has now surpassed 1,000 signatures, highlighting the strength of feeling regarding local healthcare access.
While NHS England has recently assured Town Councillors that Cllr Lee will be involved in an Equality Impact Assessment for the 2028 programme, we believe this engagement must happen much sooner.
The Need for Transparency
The 2025 decision-making process was marred by a lack of clarity. NHS England defended its plans using opaque data and refused to share its sources with local representatives. We believe the women of Warminster deserve better than “spurious” justifications for the removal of essential local services.
Our Next Steps
We are now pushing for:
Earlier Involvement: Ensuring local representatives have a seat at the table before future locations are finalised.
Accountability: Ensuring that data used to move services is open to public scrutiny.
Please keep the momentum going. If you haven’t yet signed the petition, please do so today and encourage others to join our call for fair local healthcare.
